Meet the Speakers!

 

 

Alex Morton, Field Consulting and former No10 advisor

Alex joined Field Consulting in May 2016. Before that, he was Special Adviser to the Prime Minister for two and a half years at No10, focused onall matters relating to DCLG, including housing, planning, and local government.He also drafted the Conservative 2015 Manifesto on those areas.

Prior to working in No10, he led on housing and planning at the influential Policy Exchange think tank. He has also worked in the civil service FastStream and in the House of Commons.

 

Andrew Robertson, HM Land Registry

Andrew has worked in a range of roles in HM Land Registry including as a case worker. Previously he worked for several years for the Independent Complaints Reviewer, setting up that service and then heading up a team of investigators looking into complaints about a number of public bodies,and liaising with other reviewers and regulators.In his current role, Andrew is responsible for the maintenance and development of HM Land Registry’s customer policies and also for service improvement. That involves working with HM Land Registry’s customers and stakeholders to help ensure how we handle our customers meets their needs and our own priorities. It also involves working with them to better align HM Land Registry with its customers and that includes working on improving conveyancer application quality as well as fixing inconsistency and other problems internally.

 

Mark Chick, Partner at Bishop and Sewell LLP

Mark is recognised as a leading UK authority in this sector. He is a Leasehold Reform specialist and has been a Partner at Bishop & Sewell LLP since 2006.He regularly writes and speaks about enfranchisement and leasehold matters and is the author of two leading websites Leaseholdinfo.com and Leasehold Reform News. Over the past ten years he has developed Bishop and Sewell’s Landlord and Tenant practice to be one of the largest specialist teams in the UK. Under his direction the department has flourished and he now leads a team of specialist solicitors and property experts.

 

Stephen Ward, Director of Strategy and External Relations, The Council for Licensed Conveyancers

Stephen has responsibility for the CLC’s media and communications with the regulated community as well as government and stakeholder relations. He also leads on the CLC's strategy development and delivery. Stephen has a background in the civil service and political campaigning aswell as business strategy in the private sector. For several years Stephen was Director of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility at the Law Society.


Stephen Desmond, solicitor (non-practising) and presenter

Since 2004, Stephen Desmond has delivered more than 1,500 CPD events to lawyers from a variety of backgrounds. Delegates at these events have included practitioners from a variety of size of firms, ranging from sole practitioners to City Solicitors. He is a contributing editor to Butterworths Property Law Service on the complex and ever-changing law relating to long residential leases.A former practicing Solicitor with several years post- qualification experience, Stephen has represented many business and private clients, including property investors and local authorities.

 

Rebecca Stopford, The Legal Director

At The Legal Director Rebecca works for clients between 1 and 6 days a month as their in house lawyer, providing a flexible General Counsel service. Rebecca joined The Legal Director in 2016 with 18 years experience as a commercial partner in private practice and working inhouse under her belt. This includes roles as legal counsel in a global manufacturing business where Rebecca was directly involved all manner of strategic commercial contracts for a business which delivered products to the automotive, industrial and healthcare markets and most recently as Head of Legal for PSG Connect Ltd. Rebecca lives in Derbyshire and advises clients in Yorkshire, Derbyshire and throughout the UK.
