Expert environmental consultant Tom Champney from Argyll will present this informative 1 hour session which will focus on Agricultural Land.

Farms and other large land holdings bring their own set of environmental issues, including old quarrying sites, sheep dips, pesticides and farm infrastructure. There was also a far greater degree of rural industry in the past, including private gasworks on large estates, which could have caused lasting contamination. These often give rise to environmental incidents and costs to the landowner. Farms also typically comprise large areas of land, which brings with it additional issues in flood risk and public use. This presentation takes a broad look at some of the issues, and outlines some ways in which to conduct efficient due diligence for agricultural properties. We will look at:

  • The legal framework and case law
  • Technical background to pollution and how risk is considered
  • Technical background to flood risk and how risk is derived
  • Rights of Way including registered, unregistered and historical
  • Case studies of farms with problems, and operational risks
  • A look at the available searches: highlights and limitations
